About The Position

The Department of Asian American Studies at CSU Fullerton invites applications for its Part-Time Lecturer Pool. This is a pool of part-time lecturers for the department to draw on as necessary. Qualified applicants will be contacted when positions are available. Appointments from the part-time pool are temporary and often made just prior to the start of the academic term. Applicants must be available on very short notice. The need for part-time faculty is greatest in Fall and Spring semesters. The Fall term begins in the late August and ends in mid-December; the Spring term runs from the middle of January through the end of May. On rare occasions part-time faculty are needed during one of the Summer Session segments.

Requirements

  • ABD doctoral candidate or Master’s degree with substantial graduate course work in Asian American Studies, ethnic studies, or related fields.
  • Expertise in fields relevant to the Department of Asian American Studies curriculum.
  • Evidence of prior relevant teaching, mentoring, or tutoring experience.
  • Evidence of experience in relevant academic field or relevant professional/community-based experience.
  • Ability to interact and work effectively with a wide and culturally diverse range of students, including first-generation college students.
  • Complete online application.

  • 3 letters of recommendation.
  • Inclusive excellence statement (no more than 500 words): This statement provides the candidate’s unique perspective on their past and present contributions to and future aspirations for promoting and engaging with a diverse student population. This statement aims to showcase the candidate’s professional experience, intellectual commitments, and/or willingness to teach and create an academic environment supportive of all students.

Responsibilities

  • Teach in the following subject areas: Introduction to Ethnic Studies, Introduction to Asian Pacific American Studies, History of Asian Pacific Americans, Asian Pacific American Cultural Studies, Asian American Film and Video, Asian American Women, Ideas, Imagination and Intersections in Ethnic Studies/ Asian American Studies, Community, Liberation and Action in Ethnic Studies/ Asian American Studies, Vietnamese Communities in the US, Multiple Heritage Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, South Asian American Experiences, Korean American Experiences, World War II Japanese American Evacuation, Civic Engagement Through Asian American and Pacific Islander Studies, Survey of American History with Emphasis on Ethnic Minorities.
  • Provide a statement of which courses and modalities (online, hybrid, in-person) qualified to teach.
  • Contribute to promoting and engaging with a diverse student population.
  • Create an academic environment supportive of all students.
