About The Position

The surgical technology clinical instructor is responsible for delivering a quality educational experience, clinical observation & progress assessments for the students at the hospital clinical site. Clinical days will be 1-2 days per week, as assigned from 6:30 AM - 3:00 PM. Opportunities to participate in the classroom and lab, providing instruction and leading discussion of your surgical specialty.

Requirements

  • Ability to interact effectively and professionally with students, staff, faculty, and clinical site staff.
  • Ability to address student needs and resolve issues with diplomacy and tact.
  • Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills including questioning, listening and showing concern and respect for others.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Highly organized and detail oriented.
  • Possess a high degree of integrity and commitment to comply with policies, regulations, and codes of conduct governing all aspects of job responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy skills including working knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Requires a minimum of Associate’s degree; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Requires a minimum of two (2) years of operating room experience in the scrub role or teaching in the field, or a combination of the two, within five (5) years prior to hire date.
  • Requires current certification: Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or Joint Certified Surgical Technologist/Certified Surgical First Assistant (CST/CSFA) and American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification.

Responsibilities

  • Work in partnership with the clinical site when assigning students to appropriate surgical cases.
  • Assess student performance in achieving course objectives and communicate progress in a timely manner.
  • Address student issues in a timely manner, including communicating issues to program director.
  • Evaluate students to measure their progress toward achievement of course objectives and inform them of their progress in the course in a timely manner.
  • Keep accurate student records and submit related reports and forms within requested timelines.
  • Discuss with students their concerns and/or problems directly or indirectly related to the clinical learning experience and the achievement of satisfactory progress.
  • Provide a professional role model for students.
  • Remain current in the surgical technology field and related information to teaching/clinical responsibilities with continuing education and professional development.
  • Is responsible to assist the student to develop an understanding of values, attitudes, and ideals appropriate to a surgical technologist.
  • Participates in regularly scheduled meetings with Program Director or his/her designee.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain all health requirements & clinical onboarding, as required by our clinical sites.
