About The Position

Montgomery College is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated part-time faculty member to teach Biotechnology at its Germantown Campus. The college accepts applications for Adjunct/Part-time Faculty on a continuous basis, with applications reviewed periodically based on student enrollment needs. The ideal candidate will exhibit a high degree of professionalism, a strong commitment to students, and the ability to motivate and educate in an engaging manner. Part-time faculty are limited in the number of equivalent semester hours they can teach per semester and academic year. Opportunities may exist to teach summer session classes.

Requirements

  • Masters in Biotechnology, Biological Sciences, Chemistry or a related major with relevant courses.
  • Ability to integrate technology into course delivery.
  • Ability to engage students and teach in a belonging, multicultural setting.
  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting belonging, inclusion, and multicultural competence in an educational and work environment and willingness to contribute to the Colleges strategic plan of inclusion.
  • Access to a personal computer with virus protection that can connect to the internet outside of the work location.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States without a sponsor.
  • Employees must live in Maryland or a state where the College has payroll reciprocity (DC, VA, PA, WV, DE, MA).
  • Successful completion of a background check and degree verification (if applicable) at the time of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Ph.D. in a related field.
  • Prior college level teaching experience related to introductory biotechnology courses.
  • Biotechnology industry experience.
  • For degrees earned outside of the U.S., a copy of your education equivalency, conducted by a nationally recognized evaluation service, must be included in your application.

Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned lecture and/or laboratory courses in the biotechnology discipline, which may include Introduction to Biotechnology, Introduction to Cell Culture, Aseptic Technique and Cell Culture Skills, Protein Biotechnology, Nucleic Acids Methods, and/or Immunological Methods.
  • Plan, prepare (development of course syllabi, assessments, etc.), present, and coordinate classroom instruction and related activities.
  • Teach a varied schedule of courses that may include daytime, evening, weekend and/or accelerated sections.
  • Follow guidelines from department course coordinators to ensure consistent content coverage and student experience across multiple sections of a course.
  • Administer, grade and provide feedback in a timely manner to monitor student mastery and progress through a course.
  • Adhere to and enforce laboratory safety regulations.
  • Meet college-established deadlines to submit student mid-term and final course grades via an electronic information management system.
