About The Position

The Part-Time Associate performs duties assigned by the Store Manager, which may include receiving inventory, stocking and maintaining a store section, operating a cash register, providing carry-out services, and cleaning the store. The role is located at the Smart & Final store at 4480 Atlantic Avenue, Long Beach, California. The associate maintains assigned merchandise sections, may order, receive, and stock products using proper equipment, checks pricing and product dates, prepares some perishable products, and sets up promotional displays. The role also involves reviewing invoices, maintaining sanitation in interior and exterior store areas and the parking lot, handling customer transactions and approved refunds, verifying eligibility for alcohol purchases, assisting customers with product and store information, helping load purchases when requested, performing basic bookkeeping, and recording lost or damaged goods and store supplies. The position requires availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays.

Requirements

Ability to read and write English and interact with the general public and coworkers.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, product labels, product pricing codes, shelf tags, short correspondence, and memos.
Ability to write simple correspondence.
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small-group situations to customers, clients, and other employees.
Ability to use common-sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 45 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds.
Must be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

Maintain an assigned store section and may order, receive, and stock merchandise using proper equipment.
Ensure merchandise is properly priced and check product date codes to support proper rotation.
Stock shelves, end displays, floor stacks, displays, and refrigerated or frozen cases; may prepare perishable products for sale.
Set up advertising and promotional displays.
Review invoices and bills for accuracy.
Clean and maintain sanitation standards in store interior and exterior areas and the parking lot as directed by store management.
Operate a cash register, receive customer payments, make change, and process check, charge, and debit transactions.
Process cash or credit refunds when approved by management.
Verify customer eligibility when selling alcoholic beverages.
Provide customers with friendly, knowledgeable, efficient, and courteous assistance and current store and product information.
Assist customers with loading purchases into their vehicles when requested.
Perform basic bookkeeping duties.
Record lost or damaged goods and store supplies using appropriate tools.
