About The Position

The City of Greenwood Village is seeking motivated individuals to join the Parks, Trails and Recreation Department as a Parks Technician. Applicants will be considered for all levels (I-III), with placement determined by qualifications, certifications, and experience. Parks Technicians help maintain and enhance the Village’s parks, open spaces, landscaped areas, rights‑of‑way, and trail systems. Work includes a combination of manual labor, equipment operation, maintenance duties, special event support, and snow/ice control. These positions play a critical role in keeping Greenwood Village’s outdoor spaces safe, beautiful, and functional for the community.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required for all levels.
  • Valid driver’s license with a driving record acceptable to the Village’s insurance carrier.
  • Entry‑level knowledge of park maintenance tools and equipment (for Technician I).
  • Willingness to learn proper techniques, safety procedures, and operational practices (for Technician I).
  • Ability to follow instructions, communicate clearly, and work effectively around the public (for Technician I).
  • Proficient understanding of turf and plant care, equipment operation, and park maintenance practices (for Technician II).
  • Ability to work independently, recognize hazards, and make sound decisions (for Technician II).
  • Skill in operating both light and heavy‑duty equipment safely and effectively (for Technician II).
  • Advanced technical skill, specialized certifications, and demonstrated experience in park operations (for Technician III).
  • Ability to perform and oversee complex maintenance tasks with minimal supervision (for Technician III).
  • Experience leading others and coordinating worksite operations (for Technician III).

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to obtain a Class B Commercial Driver’s License within 180 days (for Technician II & III).
  • Forklift and flagger certifications required within 90 days (for Technician II & III).
  • Crew‑specific certifications may include a Colorado Pesticide Applicator License, Sustainable Landscape Management Certification, and national or industry‑recognized landscape, horticulture, or grounds maintenance certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and enhance turf, landscaped areas, shrubs, native vegetation, planting beds, and tree rings.
  • Assist with chemical applications, equipment calibration, and adherence to safety standards.
  • Install and repair fences, park amenities, playground equipment, athletic field features, trails, and small infrastructure.
  • Operate a wide range of equipment, including mowers, tractors, sprayers, loaders, snow equipment, power tools, and light/heavy machinery.
  • Perform physically demanding outdoor work in various weather conditions.
  • Conduct trash and recycling removal across parks, open spaces, and roadside areas.
  • Support community special events through setup, coordination, and takedown.
  • Participate in snow and ice removal using vehicles, plows, blowers, and manual tools.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and training to seasonal staff when assigned.
