About The Position

Assist with the maintenance of parks, ground areas, facilities and/or equipment by performing various manual tasks. Parks Coordinators, Level 1 will be assigned to park maintenance, cleaning and custodial services within the Parks and Facilities Division. They may also be assigned to work in several areas or functions based upon operational needs. Projects and tasks performed by this position are directed by the Facilities Foreman.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • One to three years of experience in performance of custodial and maintenance work.
  • Current and valid Ohio driver’s license with an acceptable driver’s abstract in order to meet criteria for insurability established by the City of Gahanna.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, equipment, tools and materials used in parks maintenance.
  • Skill in operation of applicable machinery.
  • Skill in basic maintenance and repair related to plumbing, electrical, building maintenance and inspection.
  • Skill in handling queries from citizens.
  • Skill in working with outside vendors or contractors.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and the general public.
  • Ability to work independently with limited direction given.
  • Ability to apply problem solving skills and perform critical thinking.
  • Ability to understand and follow specific oral instructions.
  • Ability to read and write letters and numbers.
  • Lift heavy articles requiring the exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp, and repetitive motions.

Responsibilities

  • Leads custodial tasks related to the day-to-day operation of assigned areas; coordinates work duties and tasks with Foreman and Parks & Facilities Superintendent.
  • Performs janitorial and custodial tasks involved in maintenance of parks and property; includes maintenance and custodial tasks related to restroom facilities, and trash.
  • Works in the maintenance and repair of parks and recreation facilities, equipment, buildings and grounds; performs associated paperwork.
  • Responsible for maintenance, keeping active inventory, ordering supplies, materials and equipment for the department (if assigned to Equipment area).
  • Handles equipment in a safe and appropriate manner; uses safety equipment when appropriate.
  • Participates in snow removal when necessary.
  • Performs manual labor for extended periods, often under unfavorable weather conditions.
  • Performs related tasks as required.
