About The Position

The City of Gahanna is seeking a part-time Parks Team Member to join our growing Parks & Recreation Team! The Parks Team Member will assist with the maintenance of parks and grounds areas as well as facilities and equipment by performing various manual tasks. This role performs construction, janitorial, and custodial tasks involved in the maintenance of City streets, parks, and property. This position is part-time and typically works 28 hours per week. This position may require evening, weekend, and holiday hours. The starting salary is between the minimum and midpoint of the range. Candidates will start at the minimum of the range ($14.23 per hour) unless their skills, experience, education or other factors exceed the qualifications for the position.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Current and valid Ohio driver’s license with an acceptable driver’s abstract to meet criteria for insurability established by the City of Gahanna.
• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Knowledge of the principles, practices, equipment, tools, and materials used in park maintenance and construction.
• Knowledge of the necessary precautions involved in the use of tools and landscaping equipment.
• Knowledge of landscaping and horticulture practices as applied to parks and grounds areas.
• Skill in performing various manual tasks by operating assigned pieces of equipment.
• Ability to work independently with limited direction given.
• Ability to apply problem-solving skills and perform critical thinking.
• Ability to understand and follow specific oral instructions.
• Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods, often under unfavorable weather conditions.
• Ability to lift heavy articles.
• Ability to read and write letters and numbers.
• Ability to establish and effective working relationships with associates.

Responsibilities

• Works in the construction, maintenance, and repair of parks and recreation facilities, equipment, and buildings and grounds; performs associated paperwork.
• Performs street tree maintenance, turf and ball field maintenance, and landscaping and mowing activities as directed.
• Performs janitorial and custodial tasks involved in the maintenance of City streets, parks, and property; including maintenance and custodial tasks related to restroom facilities.
• Drive(s) a city vehicle.
• Handles equipment safely and appropriately; uses appropriate safety equipment when performing essential job functions.
• Participates in snow removal when necessary.
