About The Position

Under the close supervision of the Parks Division Head, Parks Supervisor and/or Crew Leaders, performs skilled work pertaining to risk management, maintenance and construction of city parks, streetscapes, sites, cemetery, Parks and Recreation facilities, City Special Events irrigation systems, and/or athletic fields. Adhere to all the various written mandatory standards of operations, policies, and procedures.

Requirements

• Must be at least 15 years old to apply.
• Requires a valid Learner’s Permit or valid Utah Driver’s License.
• Knowledge of tools, machines, and equipment used in the maintenance and construction of City parks, athletic fields, the cemetery and recreation facilities.
• Knowledge of OSHA safety standards.
• Knowledge of general construction practice and procedures.
• Knowledge of principles of plant and turf life.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Ability to perform frequent walking, bending, and lifting (up to 50 lbs.).
• Ability to perform moderate stooping and/or kneeling.
• Ability to work extensive field work in parks and cemetery (90% of work is performed outside).
• Ability to tolerate frequent exposure to heat, cold and wet/humid conditions.
• Ability to tolerate constant exposure to excessive noise and vibration.
• Ability to work some weekend, holiday, and evening work.
• Must pass drug test before hire.

• Some related work experience preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

• Performs skilled work pertaining to risk management, maintenance and construction of city parks, streetscapes, sites, cemetery, Parks and Recreation facilities, City Special Events irrigation systems, and/or athletic fields.
• Adheres to all the various written mandatory standards of operations, policies, and procedures.
• Informs supervisor of athletic field problems that could restrict or deny field use.
• Operates light and heavy trucks and four-wheeled A.T.V.s.
• Operates riding and walk-behind mowers, tractors, backhoes, and other facility, park and athletic field maintenance related equipment.
• Follows written and verbal instructions.
