About The Position

Under general direction by the Parks Crew Leader and general supervision by the Parks Superintendent, this position performs a variety of routine semi-skilled and skilled duties in the maintenance and repair of parks, grounds, and recreation facilities, ensuring the continued health of the Town’s landscapes.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or its equivalent.
  • Landscape/Maintenance experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • At time of appointment, a Texas Motor Vehicle Class C Operator's License with a satisfactory driving record maintained throughout employment.
  • Knowledge of materials and equipment used in the maintenance, repair, and installation of park fields, grounds, landscapes, and facilities.
  • Knowledge of methods and techniques of maintaining the safety of parks and playgrounds.
  • Knowledge of basic plant identification, identifying plant diseases and their causes, and proper handling of fertilizers and pesticides.
  • Knowledge of practices and procedures used in turf management, irrigation, landscape construction, and pest control.
  • Knowledge of maintaining tools and equipment used in park maintenance.
  • Knowledge of relevant laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and related safety precautions.
  • Knowledge of principles and procedures of recordkeeping.
  • Knowledge of modern office practices, methods, and computer equipment and applications.
  • Knowledge of English usage, grammar, spelling, vocabulary, and punctuation.
  • Ability to assist in the performance of landscape construction and maintenance.
  • Ability to operate tools and equipment safely.
  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods in all types of weather.
  • Ability to troubleshoot maintenance problems and determine materials and supplies required for repair.
  • Ability to make accurate mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to understand, interpret, and apply all relevant laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to independently organize work, set priorities, meet deadlines, and follow up on assignments.
  • Ability to demonstrate strong customer service skills and establish, maintain, and foster positive and effective working relationships.
  • Ability to maintain records and files on work performed.
  • Ability to use English effectively to communicate in person, over the telephone, and in writing.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Playground Inspector Certificate is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Operate a variety of motorized equipment such as small and large commercial lawn mowers, tractor with various attachments, top dresser, sod cutter, turf sweeper, paint sprayer, weed eater, edger, blower and other related maintenance and landscaping equipment; operate a variety of hand tools.
  • Repair, maintain, and ensure the safety of all playground equipment, tables, benches, bleachers, pavilions, restrooms, and other public infrastructure.
  • Perform tasks related to maintenance and preparation of athletic fields, parklands, and other municipal grounds.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on equipment as assigned; inspect equipment before operating; complete daily operations report as assigned.
  • Collect litter from town parks and other town properties.
  • Clean restrooms in town facilities and parks.
  • Perform building maintenance on town facilities as assigned.
  • Assist with landscape installation, ball field renovation and preparation, and community special events preparations when needed.
  • Assist with irrigation repair.
