About The Position

These temporary positions are not eligible for County benefits. We have multiple full-time and part-time positions available: Full-time, up to 5 months, 40 hours per week: afternoon shift, Wednesday to Sunday, and Thursday to Monday. Part-time, year-round, 16 hours per week: morning shift, Friday and Saturday. This could be a perfect opportunity to see if this work is right for you. As a Parks Maintenance/Grounds Worker Temporary (Extra-Hire), you will get to work in many park settings and facilities. You'll work alongside other parks maintenance professionals to accomplish challenging and rewarding tasks and projects. In this role you will be a part of the team maintaining the Central Region parks and facilities. The Central Region is responsible for parks in Tacoma, Parkland, and Spanaway; with the majority of the work for these positions being done at Spanaway Park. What we do directly impacts and improves the quality of life for Pierce County residents. Pierce County Parks and Recreation manages more than 5,200 acres of parks, trails, and open space, ranging from community hubs to natural areas. We deliver diverse recreation programs and maintain the infrastructure that supports both active play and quiet connection with nature. Our department is made up of four divisions: Park and Recreation Operations, Business Operations, Volunteer and Resource Development, and Park Stewardship and Infrastructure Delivery, working together to serve one of the most dynamic and fast-growing regions in Washington. Requirements

  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to safely lift, push and pull 50lbs
  • Ability to work all terrains in all weather conditions
  • As a condition of employment, the applicant will need to authorize and complete a background check.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general parks maintenance work such as, but not limited to weeding, trimming, and mowing
  • Perform maintenance work such as but not limited to facilities cleaning and upkeep
  • Assist with setup, maintenance, and tear-down of equipment for special events
  • Assist with closing park operations
  • Other duties as assigned
