About The Position

The NYC Department of Finance (DOF) is responsible for administering the city's tax revenue laws. The DOF's Legal Affairs Division provides legal advice and services for tax and revenue-related matters. The Parking Enforcement Unit is seeking two Parking Enforcement Attorneys to handle legal matters concerning parking violations, camera violations, CPLR enforcement, and the NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law.

Requirements

  • Admission to the New York State Bar.
  • One year of satisfactory United States legal experience subsequent to admission to any state bar.
  • Must remain a Member of the New York State Bar in good standing for the duration of employment.
  • To be assigned to Assignment Level (AL) II, candidates must have one year of experience at Assignment Level I or two years of comparable legal experience subsequent to admission to the bar, in the areas of law related to the assignment.
  • To be assigned to AL III candidates must have two years of experience in Assignment Levels I and/or II or three years of comparable legal experience subsequent to admission to the bar, in the areas of law related to the assignment.

Nice To Haves

  • Six months of satisfactory service as an Agency Attorney Interne (30086).

Responsibilities

  • Perform legal research and draft legal memorandum.
  • Prepare, review and/or sign legal collection and enforcement documents.
  • Research and prepare executions for collateral parking judgment debt.
  • Assist the public with complex legal problems resulting from the Sheriff Boot Program.
  • Meet with motorists in DOF business centers to explain decisions and legal requirements relating to parking debt.
  • Represent DOF during administrative hearings and other forums, potentially appearing in administrative hearings throughout the five boroughs.
  • Serve as "Of Counsel" to the Special Assistant Corporation Counsel.
  • Research and draft legal responses to claims or actions filed against the agency.
