About The Position

The Park Ranger Supervisor’s primary responsibility is to plan, schedule, evaluate and supervise all Park Ranger staff within a Region. This position provides public assistance, public safety and interpretive programming. In the absence of the Region Manager, the Park Ranger Supervisor may be directed to complete their Region Manager’s tasks.

Requirements

  • Minimum five (5) years' experience or combination of education and experience in resource protection, visitor services, outdoor education and/or emergency services.
  • Minimum of one (1) year supervisory experience required.
  • Minimum of a High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalent required.
  • Must have an understanding of and ability to apply related laws, rules, regulations, ethics, standards, policies and procedures applicable to the work.
  • Ability to lead and coach subordinates in a positive and constructive manner.
  • Must possess good problem-solving ability and good judgment.
  • Must project a pleasant and professional presence when interacting with the public.
  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License, a satisfactory driving record and the ability to maintain one throughout employment.
  • Successfully pass the PA State Police Criminal Record check.
  • Must be able to read/write/speak English.
  • Must have basic computer skills.
  • Ability to provide clear directions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Park Management/Administration, Natural Resources, Environmental Sciences or related fields preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, schedules, supervises and coordinates Park Ranger personnel engaged in providing security for the region, as well as coordinating and participating in interpretive programs.
  • Provides visitor services which include education and information regarding various topics such as recreational opportunities and safety.
  • Observes, collects and reports information that affects division facilities and users.
  • Educates the public about all division Rules and Regulations and enforces as needed.
  • Coordinates and oversees training of Park Ranger staff.
  • Establishes security priorities in conjunction with Region Manager and Site Supervisor(s).
  • Makes recommendations to Region Manager concerning projects, equipment and budget items.
  • Performs individual routine patrols by vehicle, bicycle, foot, utility vehicle and boat in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Responsible for crowd and traffic control within division facilities/events.
  • Assists in light maintenance including, but not limited to, trash pick-up and removal, restroom cleaning and snow removal.
  • Assists with special events and projects in any region.
  • May supervise volunteers and/or community service workers.
  • Assists all local, county, state and federal agencies as needed.
  • Provides emergency aid as trained for all visitors and contact local EMS as needed.
  • Ensures that supplies required for daily operations are available.
  • Ensures facility safety items are available and up-to-date.
  • Will be required to attend professional meetings.
  • Serves as the main point of contact for local law enforcement and EMS.
  • Required to manage all Park Ranger reports and records.
  • Required to take training as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.
