About The Position

The Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) seeks applicants for a Park Assistant Intern (Unpaid Contracted Student Interns) for the 2026 Fall Semester to perform duties on a part-time basis. This internship is unpaid and designed to support students or recent graduates seeking practical experience in the field. Interns may be eligible to earn academic credit through their college or university. The DCR's mission is to protect, promote and enhance Massachusetts' natural, cultural, and recreational resources. The DCR manages over 450,000 acres of state parks, forests, beaches, lakes, and more, striving to be an exemplary leader in conservation and recreation.

Requirements

  • Must be a student or recent graduate seeking practical experience.
  • Ability to earn academic credit through college or university (potential).

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of native flora and fauna and invasive plants.
  • Some familiarity with hand tools, cleaning and maintenance.
  • Landscaping experience.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining facilities and equipment.
  • Landscaping.
  • Interacting with the public and assisting visitors.
  • Assisting in the parks invasive plant removal and rewilding programs.
  • Assisting in invasive plant removal and habitat restoration.
  • Cleaning and maintaining facilities as needed.
  • Light landscaping and trail maintenance.
  • Assisting visitors as needed.
