About The Position

This is a Part-Time Position at Habersham Success Academy Woodville Elementary, requiring 25 hours per week. The Parent Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating and implementing programs and activities designed to engage families in improving student achievement. This role involves planning programs in collaboration with staff, teachers, parent organizations, business-community partners, and the principal, under the direction of a supervisor. The coordinator will design monthly activities to help families participate more effectively in their children's learning, such as Family Reading Activities, ESL, Financial Planning, Math and Science trainings, and Career and College Planning events. They will also help families understand standards, assessments, student test scores, rubrics, and the school report card, and facilitate other parent meetings and workshops as requested. Collaboration with Boys & Girls Clubs of Lanier staff and families is key to developing programs for underrepresented families. The role includes developing monthly family contact logs, creating a monthly newsletter, and acting as a liaison between families and staff when problems arise. The coordinator will arrange for translation and interpretation services, communicate regularly with staff about parent concerns, recruit parents for activities, document parent/community activities, submit monthly reports, and reach out to local community groups and businesses to promote family involvement. They will also work with community partners to identify resources for families and ensure staff have up-to-date referral information.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • A MINIMUM OF ONE YEARS’ EXPERIENCE IN SOCIAL SERVICES, EDUCATION, WORKING WITH YOUTH AND FAMILIES OR IN A RELATED FIELD.
  • Ability to plan organize and execute workshops and events.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with parents, community leaders, and staff.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, email communication, and managing contacts.
  • Organize and keeps updated rosters and member information.
  • Ensures sites have and maintains a list of community services for parental resources.
  • Maintain oral and written contact with the Club Site Directors, and other BGCL staff members for the purpose of exchange of information, to provide reports regarding facilities management, safety building practices and maintenance, and to coordinate safety and facility duties to all buildings and clubs.
  • Maintain oral and written contact with other agencies, and staff members, for the purpose of exchanging information and updates regarding building safety and maintenance.

  • Associates or bachelor’s in human services/welfare, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Design monthly activities to help families participate more effectively in improving their children’s learning. (Family Reading Activities, ESL, Financial Planning, Math and Science trainings, Career and College Planning events, etc.)

  • Facilitate and organize other parent meetings and workshops, as parent’s request.
  • Collaborate with Boys & Girls Clubs of Lanier staff, families to develop programs and activities geared to reach families who are underrepresented because of social, economic, racial and/or language barriers.
  • Develop monthly family contact logs with parent telephone numbers/emails in order to be in touch with families at least once a month.
  • Develop monthly newsletter to keep parents informed of afterschool activity, community resources, etc., with support of Resource Development staff ensuring all marketing materials reflect organizations logo.
  • Be a liaison between families and staff when problems arise under the direction of supervisor.
  • Arrange for translation and interpretation services for meetings.
  • Communicate regularly with staff about parent's ideas and concerns.
  • Recruit parents to participate in afterschool activities.
  • Document parent/community activities through visual portfolios that include sign-in sheets, flyers and pictures.
  • Submit monthly reports on the family involvement activities.
  • Reach out to local community groups and businesses to find out how they would like to promote family involvement.
  • Work with community partners and families to identify resources for families in the community. Ensure that staff have up-to-date referral information on community services to give to families. Attend community meetings that will help you connect to community resources for families.
