About The Position

The Institute for the Redesign of Learning (IRL) is seeking a Bilingual Parent Partner (English/Spanish) for a full-time position in Los Angeles County. This role is for individuals who have personally navigated systems such as child welfare, behavioral health, Regional Center, special education, or juvenile probation while advocating for their own child. The Parent Partner will use this lived experience to empower other families during challenging times, acting as a trusted mentor, advocate, and bridge between families and professionals. The goal is to help parents find hope, access resources, and confidently navigate complex systems. IRL values lived experience as a key qualification and is looking for passionate individuals committed to supporting others, building relationships, and creating lasting change.

Requirements

  • Parent or family member of a child who has received services through child welfare, juvenile probation, Regional Center, behavioral health, or similar systems
  • No open child welfare or juvenile probation case for at least one year
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
  • At least one year of experience working with individuals with behavioral, emotional, or developmental needs
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and advocacy skills
  • Basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Office, Teams, Zoom, Adobe, email)
  • Reliable transportation, valid auto insurance, and willingness to travel throughout Los Angeles County
  • Ability to pass FBI and state background clearances
  • Negative TB test

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a behavioral science or related field
  • Knowledge of community resources and mental health services
  • Experience supporting individuals with learning disabilities, behavioral challenges, or emotional disorders

Responsibilities

  • Serving as a mentor and trusted advocate for families navigating multiple child-serving systems
  • Meeting with families in homes, schools, clinics, and community settings throughout Los Angeles County
  • Connecting families with community resources and mental health services
  • Helping parents understand treatment options, educational supports, and available benefits
  • Advocating for families during meetings with schools, providers, and agencies
  • Building collaborative relationships between families and professionals
  • Providing case management, advocacy, and translation services
  • Maintaining accurate documentation and progress notes
  • Participating in community events, trainings, and collaborative meetings
  • Completing Peer Certification and required professional development
