About The Position

Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP is seeking candidates interested in careers in the legal profession for a two-year position supporting the work of the Firm’s Latin American practice. This is an opportunity for real-world exposure to multidisciplinary Latin American transactional work, networking opportunities and professional mentorship within a top global law firm. The Latin America team offers clients the benefits of a broad-based, collaborative practice that advises on matters ranging from mergers and acquisitions (e.g., cross-border mergers, joint ventures, etc.) to capital markets (e.g., IPO guidance, equity deals, etc.) to banking and credit (e.g., acquisition finance, infrastructure development, etc.) to private equity and fund (e.g., strategic debt financings, fund-level IPOs, etc.) to arbitration and investigations (e.g., cross-border litigation, anti-corruption practices, etc.).

Requirements

  • Fluency in English and Spanish
  • Ability to effectively present information verbally and in writing
  • Ability to proofread for contextual, grammatical and spelling errors
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office Suite
  • Can organize, prioritize, plan and multi-task work activities
  • Ability to work independently or in a team with limited supervision
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Flexibility to work late and on holidays/weekends and travel when necessary

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of legal principles and practices acquired through formal paralegal training or its equivalent
  • Familiarity with Latin America and its business customs
  • Working knowledge of Portuguese
  • Knowledge of iManage

Responsibilities

  • Assist attorneys with preparation of legal documents, due diligence review and related tasks
  • Organize and maintain working files and important papers, paper and e-mail correspondence, inter-office memoranda and attorney work product
  • Organize and maintain due diligence documents
  • Perform due diligence searches
  • Utilize and manage electronic databases, including assisting with AI technology under the supervision of attorneys
  • Organize internal documentation databases
  • Proofread, organize and track documents; prepare bound volumes following completion of a transaction of necessary documents; organize and distribute post-closing documents
  • Assist in reviewing comfort letter tick and ties, back up materials, disclosure schedules
  • Assist in reviewing presentations with the supervision of attorneys
  • Assist in reviewing legends and disclaimers
  • Assist with document/information gathering, exhibit preparation, logistics and coordination of items received
  • Assist with business development presentations and in the organization of business development meetings and travel
  • Assist in preparing and distributing documents to counterparties and opposing counsel
  • Perform other duties as assigned
