About The Position

The State of Connecticut, Connecticut Technical Education and Career System (CTECS), is seeking twenty-seven (27) highly motivated Paraeducators to serve at four (4) of our Technical High Schools. This is a 10-month position, paid over 12 months, Monday-Friday, with paid holidays. In this position, the selected incumbent will support certified staff in delivering educational services and programming to students, provide individualized and small-group assistance that strengthens learning, and contribute to student success. Under the direction of a certified teacher, the paraeducator reinforces instruction in academic classrooms, shops; implements accommodations and modifications as written in a student's IEP or behavior intervention plan; collects data on student progress and behavior; supports student organization, independence, and self-regulation consistent with school-wide expectations; assists with supervision and shop safety practices; and provides personal care assistance where a student's plan requires it. Paraeducators work under the supervision of certified staff and do not serve as the teacher or deliver initial instruction. CTECS operates 17 diploma-granting technical high schools, one technical education center, and two airframe mechanics and aircraft maintenance programs. CTECS serves approximately 11,200 full-time high school students across 31 in-demand CTE programs, providing hands-on training in state-of-the-art classrooms designed to mirror real-world workplaces. Requirements

Must be at least 18 years of age.
Two (2) years of college training or an Associate’s degree. NOTE: College training is calculated on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of two (2) years.
Knowledge of career and technical education practices, tools, and safety standards;
Knowledge of special education processes, including IEP objectives and accommodations;
Knowledge of classroom management strategies and student engagement techniques;
Knowledge of foundational literacy skills;
Interpersonal skills;
Oral and written communication skills;
Problem-solving skills;
Ability to respond appropriately to behavioral and safety concerns under established protocols.

Nice To Haves

Prior experience supporting students with disabilities in a high school setting.
Experience implementing Individualized Education Program (IEP) related accommodations.
Experience communicating with students and parents using technology such as PowerSchool.
Experience with behavior support plans, de-escalation, or crisis response training.
Experience supporting students in inclusive or co-taught classrooms.
Ability to support students across both academic and shop settings.

Responsibilities

Provides academic, technical, and organizational support to students individually and in groups;
Assists certified staff with instructional activities, classroom preparation, assessments, and data collection;
Supports classroom management and helps maintain safe, orderly learning environments;
Supervises students in classrooms, technical areas, common spaces, and during school activities;
Promotes safe practices and proper use of tools, equipment, and learning materials;
Supports students with diverse learning needs, including implementing Individualized Education Program (IEP) related accommodations as directed;
Assists with technology use and preparation of instructional materials;
Contributes to positive classroom culture and builds supportive relationships with students and families;
Engages in professional development and maintains confidentiality and compliance with safety and reporting requirements;
Performs related duties as required.
