About The Position

Complement, supplement, and reinforce students in instruction under the direction and supervision of the classroom teacher in both special education and general education classrooms. This role is for a Classroom Assistant/Special Education Paraeducator reporting to the Building Principal. The position is for the School Year 2026-27, starting in August 2026 at Lakeland High School. The work schedule is Monday - Friday, 32.5 hours per week. The closing date for applications is 8/21/2026, and it will remain open until filled for external candidates.

Requirements

• Must have ability to work with students with physical, cognitive, emotional, learning and/or developmental disabilities
• Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with various school officials, principals, teachers and office personnel
• Must possess initiative to accept and carry out varied assignments along with a consistent, systematic approach to the tasks performed
• Must sign Consent to Bill for Medicaid and complete Medicaid billing monthly
• Must be willing to attend Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training after school as certification expires.
• High School diploma and/or related experience.
• Ability to speak and write effectively.
• Ability to apply mathematical concepts to practical situations.
• Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral format and deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Nice To Haves

• Previous experience working with this age or special education students in general is preferred
• Other behavioral techniques may require training after school hours.

Responsibilities

• Complement, supplement, and reinforce student's instruction under the direction and supervision of the classroom teacher in both special education and general education classrooms.
• Assist with the preparation of material; clean up after students, etc.
• Assist with the general supervision of the students including lunchtime, passing time, etc.
• On an as needed basis para-professional employees may be required to attend to a student whose needs include routine medical procedure or assistance with regular hygiene.
• Track academic or behavioral data as directed by teacher
• Complete Medicaid billing monthly
• Use Nonviolent Crisis Intervention skills to socially and physically manage students who are escalated as directed by the teacher/administrator
• Other duties assigned by the special education teacher or the building principal
