About The Position

The job of Paraeducator - In-School Suspension is done for the purpose of providing support to the instructional program within an assigned classroom; assisting certified teachers in supporting the learning programs for students in their designated educational environment; supervising and documenting student behavior in the ISS program during non-classroom time; and providing information to teacher/s and staff.

  • Ability to communicate, interact, and work effectively and cooperatively with all people including those from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds
  • Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate/required safety equipment, and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator
  • Operating knowledge of and experience with personal computers and peripherals preferred; required within 2 months after hire
  • Operating knowledge of and experience with typical office equipment, such as telephones, copier, fax machine, etc. preferred; required within 2 months after hire
  • Operating knowledge of and experience with office productivity programs, such as Microsoft Office Suite, E-mail, etc. preferred

Responsibilities

  • Administers classroom assignments, tests, homework assignments, make-up work, etc. for the purpose of supporting teachers in the instructional process.
  • Assists students, individually or in small groups, with lesson assignments for the purpose of practicing and/or reinforcing learning concepts and assisting students in reaching academic goals and grade level standards.
  • Assists in obtaining, organizing, and using supplies, books, materials, and equipment as assigned for the purpose of maximizing student learning.
  • Monitors and supervises individual and/or groups of students in a variety of settings (e.g. classroom, playground, field trips, library, lunchroom, bus loading/unloading, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Documents student attendance and behavior in ISS for the purpose of making data driven decisions.
  • Provides verbal feedback and/or written documentation of observations for the purpose of informing teacher/s and/or administrators of students' progress and behavior.
  • Reports observations and incidents relating to specific students (e.g. accidents, fights, inappropriate social behavior, violations of rules, safety conditions, child abuse and/or neglect, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to appropriate instructional and/or administrative personnel.
  • Supports classroom teachers and other school personnel for the purpose of assisting them in the implementation of curriculum and teaching methodologies and behavior; confers with teachers to assist in the evaluation of student progress for the purpose of achieving student success.
  • Maintains classroom equipment, work area, and manual and electronic files and records for the purpose of ensuring availability of items, providing written reference, providing a safe learning environment, and/or meeting mandated requirements.
  • Assists with record keeping, correcting papers, filing, and copying materials as needed for the purpose of gathering and maintaining data.
  • Models conversations, manners, active listening, organizational skills and everyday interaction to demonstrate appropriate social behavior in a culturally sensitive manner for the purpose of aiding student development of interpersonal skills and successful problem-solving strategies.
  • Responds to emergency situations (e.g. injured student, fights, etc.) for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.
  • Implements various levels of discipline in accordance with school district and building policies for the purpose of ensuring a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Attends meetings and in-service presentations for the purpose of acquiring and/or conveying information relative to job functions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
