About The Position

To provide assistance and support to teachers and students in carrying out a quality instructional program. The paraprofessional assists with academic instruction, life skills development, and hands-on learning experiences, including cooking, nutrition, recipe development, and kitchen safety, while promoting student independence and success.

Requirements

High School diploma or GED required.
Must meet federal/state required qualifications (72 college quarter credits or completion of the ParaPro Assessment with a score of 455 or higher).
Current Washington State Food Worker Card (Food Handler's Card) required or must be obtained within the timeframe required by state law.
Ability to safely assist students using kitchen equipment and food preparation tools.
Successfully pass a background check, including criminal history.

Experience working with children or in an educational setting preferred.

Responsibilities

Provide instruction to students through educational activities as assigned and supervised by certificated staff.
Assist the teacher in preparing, maintaining, assembling, and returning instructional materials and equipment.
Assist in scoring, collecting, organizing, and recording student data and information as needed.
Maintain and assist in the preparation of various files, records, reports, and documentation as directed.
Assist in the supervision of students within the school building, on school grounds, during community-based instruction, and on field trips.
Function in compliance with guidelines established as criteria for each specific program as funded.
Participate in in-service training, staff development, and professional growth activities that enhance job performance and support the mission and vision of the school district.
Develop and maintain a positive classroom environment while establishing collaborative professional relationships with students, staff, and families.
Maintain open lines of communication with students, parents, and colleagues regarding academic, behavioral, and functional progress.
Assist with teaching students to establish and maintain positive classroom behaviors aligned with the district's Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) framework.
Participate in district-wide improvement efforts and district initiatives.
Engage in professional learning and implement strategies to support multilingual learners in English Immersion and Dual Language programs.
Complete the Paraeducator Fundamental Course of Study and obtain the Washington State Paraeducator General Certificate as required.
Maintain regular attendance and report to assigned duties on time.
Respect and maintain confidentiality regarding all students, parent, and staff information in accordance with district policy and federal law.
Maintain a professional appearance, demonstrate a positive attitude, and serve as a positive role model for students.
Assist in gathering instructional materials relevant to classroom units and activities.
Assist in storing, organizing, inventorying, and maintaining textbooks, instructional supplies, kitchen equipment, and other classroom materials.
Assist certificated staff in planning and implementing instructional activities that support academic, vocational, functional, and independent living goals.
Assist with Career and Technical Education (CTE) instructional activities by supporting hands-on skill development, safe use of equipment, materials management, workplace safety practices, student supervision, and collaboration with staff, families, and community partners.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal.
