The Opportunity Reporting to the Production Manager, this position provides leadership, daily support, and technical expertise to the paper machine team, focusing on safety, quality, production, cost and environmental performance. Accomplish this through the implementation and adherence to TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) standards.

Requirements

  • Successful candidate to have 5+ years of hands-on leadership experience managing employees in a unionized manufacturing or industrial environment, with the ability to apply collective agreements consistently and effectively
  • Engineering degree or technical education background preferred (Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, or related discipline)
  • Advanced Excel skills, including data analysis, KPI tracking, and reporting, required
  • Working knowledge of TPM, Lean Manufacturing, or Continuous Improvement methodologies
  • Strong understanding of production operations, equipment performance, safety leadership, and continuous improvement principles in a 24/7 operating environment
  • Demonstrated problem‑solving, decision‑making, and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities under operational pressure
  • Experience supporting capital installations, equipment upgrades, or process improvement projects in a manufacturing setting

Responsibilities

  • Create a culture where the safety of our people and our environment stewardship are priorities over production

  • Ensure adherence to all safety regulations, procedures, and company standards
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and promptly address unsafe conditions or behaviors
  • Evolve and mature the safety culture by actively participating in the safety conversation and behavioral safety processes
  • Maintain compliance with environmental regulations
  • Ensure strong housekeeping standards are established, maintained, and audited regularly
  • Create a culture where we embrace and implement TPM methodologies enabling our capability to achieve a world class OEE target of 90% by the end of 2025
  • Enforce quality standards throughout the production process, identifying and resolving any quality issues promptly
  • Track key performance indicators (KPIs) related to production efficiency and quality
  • Support plant wide initiatives to drive OEE and waste improvement including Break Down Analysis (BDA), Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Clean Inspect and Lubricate (CIL), Focused Improvement (FI), One Point Lessons (OPL) and Standard Operating Practice (SOP) activities
  • Identify and resolve production issues, troubleshoot machine problems, and implement solutions
  • Attend daily and weekly operations review (DOR & WOR) meetings to check performance metrics, identify issues, and develop corrective actions
  • Actively participate in the monthly review of site Objectives, Goals, Strategies, and Metrics (OGSM) and contribute to the development of the annual plan
  • Support and execute capital improvement and equipment upgrade projects, including commissioning and start‑up activities
  • Partner with Engineering and Maintenance on reliability improvements, shut planning, and asset optimization
  • Manage day‑to‑day relationships with vendors and contractors supporting the paper machine area, ensuring all work complies with site safety, quality, cost, and operational standards
  • Support capital installations and major equipment upgrades by coordinating vendors, internal stakeholders, and shift resources, and by participating in commissioning, equipment acceptance, performance verification, and post‑installation reviews
  • Create a culture where our people want to come to work, enjoy working together, and share a sense of belonging
  • Lead and support shift teams, ensuring alignment with production plans, safety standards, and operating procedures
  • Supervise, coach, and develop Assistant Superintendents, Process Engineers, and Co‑op Students
  • Conduct performance reviews, provide regular feedback, and support employee development plans
  • Perform audits on the CI (Clean and Inspect) process
  • Recognize and celebrate team achievements to reinforce positive performance and behaviors
  • Collaborate effectively with union leadership, shift supervisors, maintenance, and cross‑functional teams
  • Train team members on technical processes and procedures to improve their skills and knowledge
  • Proactively identify risks and escalate operational, safety, or people‑related concerns to management
