The successful candidate will provide inpatient hospice and palliative medicine services across UW-affiliated hospitals in Madison, including a community academic hospital, an academic quaternary care center, and a lower-acuity academically affiliated hospital. The physician will serve as the attending of record for the inpatient consultative palliative care service, leading interdisciplinary teams in the assessment and management of patients with serious illness and complex symptom and communication needs. Responsibilities include providing expert consultation to primary teams, delivering patient- and family-centered care, and coordinating closely with interdisciplinary team members including advanced practice providers, nurses, social workers, and chaplains. The physician will also serve as the primary attending provider for patients admitted to the palliative care or hospice service, overseeing medical management and care planning for patients with advanced illness. A key component of the role includes supervision and education of Hospice and Palliative Medicine fellows, internal medicine residents, and medical students, with active engagement in bedside teaching, case review, and mentorship of trainees across clinical settings. In addition to clinical responsibilities, the successful candidate will contribute to the academic mission of the Division of Hematology, Medical Oncology and Palliative Care and the Department of Medicine. Faculty participate in program-wide initiatives, including quality improvement, educational programming, and interdisciplinary collaboration aimed at advancing palliative care delivery. This position is full or part time, 75%-100% This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location. This position has been identified as a position of trust with access to vulnerable populations. The selected candidate will be required to pass an initial caregiver check to be eligible for employment under the Wisconsin Caregiver Law and repeated every four years. The title is determined by the experience and qualifications of the finalist.
