About The Position

The Palletizer Operator is responsible for producing pallets of product that are properly stacked, stretch-wrapped, and ready for storage in the warehouse. This role ensures the palletizing machine operates efficiently, troubleshoots malfunctions, and maintains overall line efficiency. The operator also optimizes pallet stacking patterns for quality, coordinates material handling, assists with the LP process, and participates as a team member to uphold B.E.S.T practices and Simmons Operating systems principles.

Requirements

  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Experience running large machines.
  • Fast paced production experience preferred.
  • Background in manufacturing.
  • Experienced within a manufacturing/process environment with knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures the palletizing machine is running at all times.
  • Troubleshoots all palletizer machine malfunctions/abnormalities in a timely manner to maintain over-all line efficiency, including troubleshooting the machine, shuttle cars, wrappers, and photo eyes.
  • Informs maintenance of any repairs that are needed on any of the equipment.
  • Selects appropriate palletizing pattern.
  • Verifies code date at each changeover.
  • Notifies forklift driver of change over.
  • Ensures pallets are of acceptable quality.
  • Complies with QA standard guidelines.
  • Ensures that all finished pallets are of acceptable quality.
  • Checks pallet pattern for each product.
  • Verifies that the palletizer is set up for the correct bag size and pattern.
  • Optimizes stack patterns to uphold the BEST quality for the customer by minimizing over-hang, eliminating product gaps and presenting a tightly stacked symmetrical pallet.
  • Coordinates material handling and keeps open communication with forklift driver to ensure that the lines do not run out of materials.
  • Communicates with the Parsons/Thiele operators to plan ahead for upcoming changeovers.
  • Changes materials out as needed when changing products.
  • Ensures that the correct materials are being utilized per product (e.g., correct pallets, slip sheets, and film).
  • Assists the manifestor in the LP process.
  • Covers the manifest station while the employee is on break.
  • Verifies ACCURACY of LP’s applied to pallets.
  • Ensures G-Code and quantity are CORRECT.
  • Participates as a member of the Team, including ongoing development, communication, and implementation of team concepts, programs, and policies.
  • Coordinates work to ensure B.E.S.T practices with all team members.
  • Attends appropriate team meetings.
  • Fosters strong cohesiveness regarding all major issues (e.g., direction, annual plan, budget, policy changes).
  • Accepts responsibility to quickly identify any areas that lack cohesiveness, bringing them to the attention of the team leader and working with the team in a supportive manner to resolve issues.
  • Actively looks for ways, and reinforces actions needed, to achieve synergy possible within the larger organization.
  • Is familiar with Simmons’ established operating systems (e.g., quality, security, office environment, company policies, LEAN).
  • Understands the responsibility to maintain familiarity with the systems and this position’s role in support of these systems.
  • Considers the impact of individual actions on the systems and the responsibility to communicate concerns and improvement ideas.
  • Performs other duties as necessary in support of business objectives.
