About The Position

This position is responsible for producing pallets of product that are properly stacked, stretch-wrapped, and ready for warehouse storage. The operator ensures the palletizing machine runs continuously, troubleshoots malfunctions, and maintains line efficiency. This role involves coordinating with material handlers, forklift drivers, and other operators to ensure smooth production flow, manage changeovers, and maintain quality standards. The operator also assists in the LP process and covers the manifest station during breaks, verifying the accuracy of labels and codes. Teamwork, adherence to Simmons Operating Systems principles, and a commitment to continuous improvement are essential.

Requirements

  • Experience running large machines.
  • Fast-paced production experience preferred.
  • Background in manufacturing.
  • Experienced within a manufacturing/process environment with knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 55lbs (approximately 15% of the time).
  • Willingness to work in hot and cold climates.
  • Must wear Steel toed shoes, Ear Plugs, and Hair Net.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure palletizing machines are running at all times.
  • Troubleshoot palletizer machine malfunctions and abnormalities in a timely manner to maintain overall line efficiency, including issues with the machine, shuttle cars, wrappers, and photo eyes.
  • Inform maintenance of any necessary equipment repairs.
  • Select appropriate palletizing patterns.
  • Verify code dates at each changeover.
  • Notify forklift drivers of changeovers.
  • Ensure pallets are of acceptable quality and comply with QA standard guidelines.
  • Check pallet patterns for each product and verify palletizer setup for correct bag size and pattern.
  • Optimize stack patterns to uphold quality by minimizing overhang, eliminating product gaps, and presenting a tightly stacked symmetrical pallet.
  • Coordinate material handling and maintain open communication with forklift drivers to prevent material shortages.
  • Communicate with Parsons/Thiele operators to plan for upcoming changeovers.
  • Change materials as needed when changing products, ensuring correct materials (pallets, slip sheets, film) are utilized per product.
  • Assist the manifestor in the LP process and cover the manifest station during breaks.
  • Verify the accuracy of LP's applied to pallets, ensuring G-Code and quantity are correct.
  • Participate as a member of the Team, fostering strong cohesiveness and implementing team concepts, programs, and policies.
  • Attend appropriate team meetings.
  • Accept responsibility to quickly identify areas lacking cohesiveness and work with the team leader and team to resolve issues.
  • Maintain familiarity with Simmons’ established operating systems (quality, security, office environment, company policies, LEAN) and understand the role in supporting these systems.
  • Communicate concerns and improvement ideas regarding operating systems.
  • Perform other duties as necessary in support of business objectives.
