About The Position

The Paint Prep Operator is responsible for preparing aerospace parts for painting. This role involves ensuring parts are clean, free of defects, and meet specific finishing requirements according to drawings and specifications. The operator will use various tools and materials for preparation, handle hazardous chemicals safely, and maintain a clean and safe work environment. This position requires attention to detail, adherence to procedures, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced manufacturing setting.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Skill in prioritizing and managing a fast-paced work environment.
Ability to use a computer for basic Microsoft Office functions (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
Excellent attention to detail.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers and apply basic mathematical skills.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, team-oriented, and ability to deal with a wide variety of personalities and communication styles.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Skill in organizing, identifying, and recognizing differences or similarities.
Adaptable to change and to considerable variety in the workplace.
Ability to accept constructive criticism and deal calmly and effectively with stressful situations.

Nice To Haves

Six months to one-year related paint experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Follow Lean Manufacturing and 6s practices.
Visually inspect parts prior to painting to identify failures and damage, reporting any issues to the Paint Shop Supervisor.
Ensure parts to be painted are clear of dirt or foreign material, cleaning them if necessary.
Review work orders for missed processes and complete/maintain associated paperwork.
Prepare parts using tools such as sandpaper and electric sanders to achieve the finish specified in drawings/specifications.
Prepare and apply a putty mix to non-conforming areas of parts.
Maintain knowledge of current specifications and call outs.
Perform touching up, masking, and unmasking of parts.
Follow hazardous chemical and waste handling procedures.
Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) properly, ensuring areas for respirator seals are clean and hair-free.
Read and interpret all Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for chemicals used.
Develop and maintain constructive working relationships with colleagues.
Identify opportunities for process improvement and increased efficiency.
Maintain safe working practices and ensure the work area is clean and free of unsafe situations.
Follow all established Vaupell policies, standard operating procedures, and safety practices.
Perform other duties as assigned.
