About The Position

The Pain Management APP will play a critical role in both inpatient and outpatient pain management services, performing consultations, procedures, and long-term care management for patients with acute and chronic pain conditions. The APP will also serve on key institutional committees related to pain management and opioid stewardship.

Requirements

  • Applicants must hold a Master’s degree from an accredited NP / PA program.
  • Strong neurological assessment skills and comfort managing both acute and chronic neurological conditions.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Applicant must be a certified CNS / NP / PA.
  • Current State of Ohio licensure is required and should be maintained at all times.
  • Certificate to Prescribe must be current and maintained at all times.
  • DEA license must be current and maintained at all times.
  • A thorough understanding of HIPAA law is required and professional discretion must be demonstrated at all times.
  • Applicant must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with both patients and colleagues are essential.
  • Computer literacy is required and must include Excel, Word and Outlook, and Electronic Medical Records experience is an advantage, preferably EPIC.

Nice To Haves

  • Pain Management experience preferred; new graduates with strong interest in pain medicine considered.
  • Electronic Medical Records experience is an advantage, preferably EPIC.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct pain management inpatient consults for patients with acute and chronic pain.
  • Perform regional pain blocks under supervision or per protocol.
  • Manage of intrathecal pain pumps in emergent settings.
  • Provide multimodal pain management strategies tailored to individual patient needs.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (anesthesia, neurosurgery, orthopedics, oncology, palliative care, and other services) to optimize pain control and decrease length of stay.
  • Educate patients and families on pain management strategies and treatment plans with the goal of improving patient satisfaction.
  • Assist with opioid conversion and weaning protocols for inpatients as needed.
  • Independently evaluate and manage patients in the pain clinic.
  • Perform outpatient procedures such as trigger point injections, joint injections, and nerve blocks.
  • Facilitate outpatient referrals for new pain management patients.
  • Conduct follow-up visits for discharged patients and ongoing pain management patients.
  • Assist the attending physician with new patient evaluations, procedure planning, and clinic workflow.
  • Coordinate medication management, including opioid and non-opioid pain regimens.
