PACU Registered Nurse
About The Position
At the Connecticut Joint and Spine Institute within Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center, the Preoperative Registered Nurse (RN) in the Pre & PACU provides pre-operative nursing care for patients preparing for surgical procedures. The RN conducts comprehensive assessments, verifies readiness for anesthesia and surgery, provides education, and supports patients and families throughout the pre-operative process. This is a full-time, 36-hour-per-week hourly Staff RN position on day shift. The schedule is Monday through Friday, with late call rotations supporting shifts until 4:00 pm. Shifts are nine hours with variable start times, typically 5:00 am to 2:30 pm. No weekends are required. The pay range is $37.25–$61.75 per hour; pay is based on working RN experience only and may vary by location.
Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited nursing program.
- Current Connecticut RN license.
- The ideal candidate will have one or more years of Pre Op or Perioperative nursing experience.
Nice To Haves
- Candidates with two or more years of medical-surgical, telemetry, or step-down nursing experience in an Inpatient Acute Setting may be considered for training.
- BLS and ACLS certifications; support is available post-hire.
- Ability to practice according to ASPAN (American Society of PeriAnesthesia Nursing) standards.
Responsibilities
- Complete detailed pre-operative assessments, including medical history review, medication verification, and evaluation of surgical and anesthesia readiness.
- Provide patient and family education on the surgical process, expectations, and pre-procedure instructions to ensure understanding and readiness.
- Monitor patient status prior to surgery, address concerns, and collaborate with anesthesia and surgical teams for safe, efficient transitions to the operating room.
