About The Position

Deschutes Brewery is currently hiring for a full-time, overnight Packaging Shift Lead! This position is responsible for leading the overnight team within the packaging department. Schedule for this role is anticipated to be 3, 12-hour shifts, 5:30pm- 6:00am Tuesday-Thursday; schedule may vary based on business need. This position is eligible for a $3.00/hour shift differential on top of base wage for all hours worked between 6am – 6pm.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years' experience in a production / manufacturing facility
  • Exceptional communication skills, to include: written, verbal, and non-verbal (body language).
  • Ability to hire, lead, coach, develop and motivate direct reports, focusing on retaining top performers.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, procedures, and machinery.
  • Familiarity with brewing processes, packaging lines & maintenance processes.
  • Highly focused on results and providing a structured, systematic approach to delivering solutions.
  • Proven ability to manage team relationships, develop business plans, focus on goals & objectives, and deliver results.
  • Effectively operate in a team environment and be experienced with leading and delegating work to others.
  • Strong interpersonal, management and technical problem solving skills.
  • Must be able to manage multiple tasks and priorities and easily adapt to changing situations.
  • Proven ability to create and implement policies/programs and influence change.
  • Sound decision making skills.
  • Computer proficiency required, including intermediate experience with the Microsoft Suite
  • Ability to work flexible and extended hours as needed in a 24/7 operation is essential, including weekends and off-shifts as necessary per management discretion.
  • Able to meet the physical requirements of the role, including: Stand or walk for extended periods of time
  • Work in varying hot or cold conditions, with temperatures ranging from 40-90 degrees
  • Occasionally lift up to 70lbs
  • Work in high decibel level areas
  • Transition from office to production environment multiple times per shift

Nice To Haves

  • Two years of college training with courses applicable to position duties and/or specialized technical training
  • 1 year of supervisory or managerial experience leading and managing teams with key holder responsibilities
  • Knowledge of beer and brewing industry is ideal.
  • Effective public speaking skills.
  • Five years related work experience in manufacturing or production operation.
  • Previous work in food and beverage industry; brewery experience beneficial.
  • Understanding of Lean principles with a focus on processes.
  • Manufacturing operations experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Packaging team in daily execution of responsibilities for assigned shift, including but not limited to the following tasks:
  • Direct leadership of assigned operator team through all aspects of operations.
  • Maintain and drive focus on Safety, Quality & Efficiency, in that prioritized order.
  • Understanding of GMP and food safety program. Able to lead team through compliance.
  • Oversee the execution of the production schedule on a daily basis, keeping other departments well informed of any deviation from the schedule.
  • Provide daily update reports to colleagues and Operations leadership team through verbal and written communications.
  • Complete and deliver Annual performance reviews.
  • Ability to understand and communicate KPI related information to the team.
  • Ensure effective co-owner relations through assisting with hiring, training, developing and motivating team members.
  • Be familiar with all aspects of daily Packaging operations.
  • Ensure a clean work area and enforce all safety standards.
  • Be familiar with SOP's for each machine/process in the department and be able to operate within them.
  • Lead troubleshooting efforts for any issues or production problems that arise on an immediate basis.
  • Follow escalation procedure in response to any production issues that arise in packaging.
  • Assist in troubleshooting break-fix for equipment in collaboration with the maintenance team.
  • Work to identify issues before they arise and implement preventative measures.
  • Oversee shift schedules to include but not limited to: offline time, co-owner training, co-owner vacations, co-owner breaks, overtime assignment, coordination of breaks and lunches, and production line work for absent co-owners, workstation assignments and time card approvals.
  • Solid understanding of Just Foods ERP system. Able to troubleshoot issues and ensure accuracy.
  • Ensure that production startups, shutdowns, and changeovers are well coordinated.
  • Prepare for and conduct shift meetings, providing clear direction and updates to team.
  • Responsible to meet shift production goals.
  • Responsible for routinely monitoring and following quality control standards.
  • Verify accuracy of BBT volumes and product releases between Cellar and Packaging department.
  • Oversee inventory control and reconciliation duties for all packaging material accuracy.
  • Ability to effectively delegate to team.
  • Ability to exercise a great deal of tact and discretion.
  • Ability to work closely and effectively with other department co-owners of all levels.
  • Other duties or projects as assigned.
