About The Position

The Packaging Operator I is responsible for the safe, accurate and efficient operation of packaging equipment in the Bag/Cup product division. In the event of absence, the position will be filled by adequately trained personnel. This is a 1st Shift position, from 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM.

Requirements

  • High School or technical school diploma; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally in English as it pertains to individual position.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs and chart recorders.
  • Knowledge of Human Machine Interface (HMI) panels and other basic computer skills.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Must adhere to all corporate GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices), established SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) and all Food Safety policies.
  • Must adhere to all Allergen control programs and procedures as applicable.
  • If monitoring CCPs (Critical Control Points), must be trained in HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) and adhere to approved HACCP plan(s).
  • Regularly required to stand and use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
  • Frequently required to reach with hands and arms.
  • Occasionally required to walk; climb or balance; talk or hear and taste or smell.
  • Must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

Responsibilities

  • Safely and effectively operate packaging equipment in the area.
  • Maintain processing flow, resulting in established target operational efficiency.
  • Assist the Positional Instructors/Corporate Trainers in effective training of the departmental staff as needed.
  • Track, review and communicate departmental KPIs in the areas of Safety, Quality, Productivity, waste, yield, and Equipment performance. Committed to meeting and exceeding them on a daily basis.
  • Troubleshoot/repair equipment related issues. Work closely with the Maintenance team in maintaining a high level of equipment reliability through shift inspections and preventive maintenance programs. Complete Operate Basic care inspection routes daily.
  • Proper start up/shutdown of equipment in the area.
  • Communicate effectively within the department to ensure the most efficient and productive operation.
  • Learn, operate and adjust multiple packaging equipment and processes.
  • Perform label verification & line clearance between batches as applicable and needed.
  • Complete required paperwork accurately and honestly as applicable.
  • Adhere to all corporate GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices), established SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) and all Food Safety policies.
  • Adhere to all Allergen control programs and procedures as applicable.
  • Report suspicious packages, activities and individuals.
  • If monitoring CCPs (Critical Control Points), must be trained in HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) and adhere to approved HACCP plan(s).
  • 100% adherence to all recipe designs; no deviations.
  • 100% adherence to all company GMP’s (Good Manufacturing Practices) and SOP’s (Standard Operating Procedures); no deviations.
  • Ability through training and appropriate time in the position to run, adjust, breakdown and reassemble job-specific packaging equipment.
  • Understand implications of “down time” and inefficient packaging.
  • Understand how to react to such matters to minimize downtime incurred.
  • Contribute in a proactive approach to address future downtime obstructions.
  • Update Packout Lead/Supervisor on efficiencies and any hindrances to the process.
  • Offer recommendations and solutions to such matters.
  • Utilize designated paperwork/systems to track, verify and adjust efficiencies.
  • Be prepared to explain successes and opportunities.
  • Responsible for “real time” position-specific inventory control.
  • Accurate and efficient use of floor-level inventory tracking systems.
  • Responsible for any and all line product being put “on hold” or deemed “waste”, as a result of line error or inefficiencies.
  • Responsible for any and all line “Down Time”, related to Packaging line/equipment.
