About The Position

The Packaging Operator I is responsible for the safe, accurate and efficient operation of packaging equipment in the Bag/Cup product division. This position operates on the 1st Shift, from 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM. Essential duties include safely operating packaging equipment, maintaining processing flow to meet efficiency targets, assisting with training, tracking and communicating Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for Safety, Quality, Productivity, waste, yield, and Equipment performance. The role also involves troubleshooting and repairing equipment issues, collaborating with the Maintenance team, performing equipment start-up and shutdown procedures, and learning to operate and adjust multiple packaging equipment and processes. Label verification and line clearance between batches are also key responsibilities. For Food Safety, the operator must complete required paperwork accurately, adhere to corporate Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and all Food Safety policies, including Allergen control programs. They are responsible for reporting suspicious activities and individuals, and if monitoring Critical Control Points (CCPs), must be trained in Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) and adhere to approved HACCP plans.

Requirements

  • High School or technical school diploma; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally in English as it pertains to individual position.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs and chart recorders.
  • Knowledge of Human Machine Interface (HMI) panels and other basic computer skills.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Must have a valid driver's license, pre-employment and annual screening of Motor Vehicle Record and personal automobile insurance coverage in accordance with the Blount Fine Foods Employee Handbook.

Responsibilities

  • Safely and effectively operate packaging equipment in the area.
  • Maintain processing flow, resulting in established target operational efficiency.
  • Assist the Positional Instructors/Corporate Trainers in effective training of the departmental staff as needed.
  • Track, review and communicate departmental KPIs in the areas of Safety, Quality, Productivity, waste, yield, Equipment performance.
  • Troubleshoot/repair equipment related issues.
  • Work closely with Maintenance team in maintaining high level of equipment reliability through shift inspections, preventive maintenance programs.
  • Complete Operate Basic care inspection routes daily basis.
  • Proper start up/shutdown of equipment in the area.
  • Communicate effectively within department to ensure most efficient and productive operation.
  • Learn, operate and adjust multiple packaging equipment and processes.
  • Label verification & line clearance between batches as applicable and needed.
  • Complete required paperwork accurately and honestly as applicable.
  • Adhere to all corporate GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices), established SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) and all Food Safety policies.
  • Adhere to all Allergen control programs and procedures as applicable.
  • Report suspicious packages, activities and individuals.
  • If monitoring CCPs (Critical Control Points), must be trained in HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) and adhere to approved HACCP plan(s).
  • 100% adherence to all recipe designs; no deviations.
  • 100% adherence to all company GMP’s (Good Manufacturing Practices) and SOP’s (Standard Operating Procedures); no deviations.
  • Ability through training and appropriate time in the position; to run, adjust, breakdown and reassemble job specific packaging equipment.
  • Understand implications of “down time” and inefficient packaging.
  • Update Packout Lead/Supervisor on efficiencies and any hindrances to the process.
  • Utilize designated paperwork/systems to track, verify and adjust efficiencies.
  • Responsible for “real time” position specific inventory control.
  • Responsible for any and all line product being put “on hold” or deemed “waste”, as a result of line error or inefficiencies.
  • Responsible for any and all line “Down Time”, related to Packaging line/equipment.
