The Packaging Machine Operator, under the general supervision, is responsible for the safe, efficient and continuous operation of snack packaging machinery. This role involves maintaining shift documentation, reading and interpreting production schedules, printing labels, performing nitrogen testing, and ensuring the efficient operation of packaging machinery by monitoring codes, dates, and prices. The operator will also maintain an adequate supply of roll stock and packaging materials, set up and write new programs for bag makers, and write/edit machine micro logic as needed. They will perform preventative maintenance, set up and make minor scale repairs and adjustments, and perform span calibration on scales. The operator will efficiently operate packaging equipment including case sealers and robot cells, managing machine setups, troubleshooting, changeovers, running procedures, adjustments, sanitation, preventative maintenance, and shutdown. They will plan ahead for machine changeovers, monitor and adjust machines for proper film cut-off and seals, ensure machines run at standard speeds, and monitor product appearance and weight control. Identifying and resolving packaged product quality issues, accounting for and reworking product run-off, and keeping machines and work areas clean are also key responsibilities. The operator must immediately report maintenance problems, adhere to safety and hygiene guidelines, store supplies properly, keep work areas clear, and follow instructions for safe lifting. Additional duties may include maintaining shift documentation, providing leadership to packers, acting as a Back-up Packaging Coordinator, monitoring and replenishing seasoning, and performing other duties as required. Mandatory overtime may be required.
