About The Position

Responsible for the set-up and operation on a variety of machinery to produce a large assortment of parts or finishes often of a complex nature. Must apply knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics and machining procedures.

Requirements

  • Basic math skills required, advanced preferred.
  • General computer skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding of various measuring devices.
  • Identify and resolve problems in a timely manner; gathers and analyzes information skillfully; develops alternative solutions; works well in group problem solving situations.
  • Must be able to complete required paperwork and provide information needed by subsequent shift workers, coworkers and supervisors.
  • Read and understand written instructions, blueprints, job travelers, etc.
  • Understand and retain oral job-related information and instructions received from coworkers and supervisors. Listen for alarms and monitor equipment to ensure proper functioning.
  • Visually monitor machine and product to ensure proper mechanics and quality are maintained and identify problems; specifically paying attention to detail.
  • Load, unload, move, stack and stage product and materials using forklift.
  • Use of overhead crane.
  • Maintain the facility’s equipment and materials in a neat, clean, and orderly fashion.
  • Operate all equipment in a safe and efficient manner following prescribed work methods.
  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • 1 to 3 years of related experience or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical school w/certificate is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Verify correct product using job traveler.
  • Set-up and operate a variety of machinery (Lathe, Mill, Saw, Core Drill, Hob) to blueprint specifications.
  • Monitor machine performance and perform preventative maintenance to assure continuity of production.
  • Monitor and ensure all fluid levels are maintained on all equipment.
  • Monitor inventory levels and report low levels and discrepancies to supervisor.
  • Must use precision measuring tools specific to job.
  • Must use job specific hand tools.
  • Read part drawing with sectional views.
  • Lift, position and transport work piece with a hoist.
  • Must accurately record labor hours into E1 system.
  • Work independently; assist and train less experienced machinists.
  • Maintain plant standards in areas of safety, quality, delivery, cost, 5S, housekeeping, teamwork and attendance.
  • Demonstrate personal leadership; actively participate in or lead problem solving and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Demonstrate flexibility when confronted with high stress or emergency situations, priority changes, or new assignments.
  • Recommend improvements for area product and processes.
  • Interact professionally when interacting with customers and employees.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
