The Packaging Machine Operator, under the general supervision, is responsible for the safe, efficient and continuous operation of snack packaging machinery. This role involves maintaining shift documentation, reading and interpreting production schedules, printing labels, performing nitrogen testing, and ensuring the efficient operation of packaging machinery by monitoring codes, dates, and prices. The operator will also maintain an adequate supply of roll stock and packaging materials, set up and write new programs for bag makers, and write/edit machine micro logic as needed. Additionally, the role includes performing preventative maintenance, making minor repairs and adjustments to equipment such as scales and formers, and efficiently operating packaging equipment including case sealers and robot cells. This encompasses machine setups, troubleshooting, changeovers, proper running, procedural adjustments, sanitation cleanup, preventative maintenance, and shutdown. The operator must plan ahead for machine changeovers, monitor and adjust machines for proper film cut-off and seals, ensure machines run at standard speeds, monitor product appearance, adhere to weight control programs, and identify/resolve quality issues. They will also account for and rework product run-off, keep machines and work areas clean, and immediately report maintenance problems. Safety and hygiene guidelines must be practiced, supplies stored properly, and work areas kept clear. The role also involves following instructions for safe lifting, identifying equipment issues, and reporting injuries. Depending on qualifications, the operator may also maintain shift documentation, provide leadership to packers, act as a Back-up Packaging Coordinator, or monitor and replenish seasoning. Mandatory overtime may be required, and other duties may be performed as needed.
