About The Position

The Intern will join a highly collaborative in-house Legal team within SCOR’s P&C division. Due to the team’s wide-ranging responsibilities, the Intern will gain exposure to a diverse array of legal, regulatory, underwriting, and operational matters impacting the business. The Intern will collaborate with in-house counsel to prepare transaction-related documentation, regulatory submissions, and other legal materials generated by the U.S. P&C Legal team. Additional duties may include organizing and supporting policy filing submissions to State regulators, performing legal research, and monitoring emerging legal issues relevant to the business. Subject to workload, the individual may also contribute to the review and development of training resources, comparative state-by-state regulatory charts/surveys, internal policies and procedures, and other organizational or business initiatives. This internship provides hands-on experience in insurance law, regulatory compliance, and in-house legal practice.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited J.D. program
  • Problem Solving - Ability to identify and analyze issues, proposals and rolling out relevant solutions after appropriate approvals
  • Communication – Strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to raise critical points when relevant
  • Independence - A proven self-starter who takes the initiative and can act independently when needed and make their own decisions
  • Curiosity - An appetite for learning and development
  • Legal Research and Writing – proficient with conducting legal research on Westlaw and/or Lexis Nexis
  • Candidates must have valid authorization to work in the U.S. without the need for employer sponsorship now or in the future.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct legal research on state and federal insurance laws, regulations, and regulatory guidance and draft related memoranda.
  • Assist with responses to insurance department inquiries.
  • Monitor and summarize legislative and regulatory developments impacting areas such as underwriting and product development.
  • Draft and revise training materials.
  • Support special projects as assigned by the Legal Department.
