About The Position

McKenney Home Care is hiring dependable Caregivers, HHAs, and CNAs for private-duty, one-on-one overnight care in clients’ homes throughout Sarasota and Charlotte County. The agency is family-owned and provides individualized care through its Venice office. Overnight assignments are typically awake 12-hour shifts, approximately 8:00 PM–8:00 AM. Caregivers must remain awake, alert, and available throughout the shift and arrive rested. They cannot work another job or daytime shift on days they are scheduled for an awake overnight assignment. Opportunities may include weeknight or weekend shifts, recurring assignments, and consistent assignments when available; schedules depend on client needs, caregiver availability, experience, and location, and hours are not guaranteed.

Caregivers provide support according to individualized care plans, assist clients with activities of daily living, promote safety and comfort, observe and report changes, and document care using the WellSky app. The position involves working independently in private homes, with 24/7 office and nursing support available.

HHA certification, Florida CNA licensure, or previous professional caregiving experience is welcomed but is not required for every opportunity. Applicants who are selected to move forward will be guided through any remaining onboarding requirements. Compensation is $17.00–$20.00 per hour. McKenney Home Care is an equal opportunity employer.

Requirements

• Ability and willingness to remain awake for the entire 12-hour overnight shift.
• Ability to maintain a schedule that allows arrival rested and alert; caregivers working another daytime job on scheduled overnight days cannot be assigned to these shifts.
• Strong communication, observation, and reliability.
• Comfort working independently in a private home setting.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Current auto insurance with the caregiver listed as an allowed driver.
• Reliable transportation.
• Hands-on CPR certification; online-only CPR is not accepted.
• TB screening within the required timeframe or a qualifying chest X-ray.
• Level 2 AHCA background screening.
• Dependable attendance and professional conduct.

Nice To Haves

• HHA certification, Florida CNA licensure, or previous professional caregiving experience; welcomed but not required for every opportunity.

Responsibilities

• Remain awake, alert, and attentive throughout the full overnight shift.
• Assist with toileting, personal care, mobility, and other activities of daily living.
• Provide fall-prevention and safety support throughout the night.
• Offer reassurance, companionship, and redirection when needed.
• Assist with repositioning and nighttime routines according to the care plan.
• Prepare light meals or snacks and encourage hydration as appropriate.
• Provide medication reminders as permitted by the care plan.
• Observe and report changes in condition, behavior, or sleep patterns.
• Complete required documentation using the WellSky app.
• Follow individualized care plans and communicate concerns to the office team.
