About The Position

Altom Transport is seeking dedicated and professional Over The Road CDL A Owner Operator Tanker Drivers to transport liquid bulk materials across the country. The role involves extended time on the road, typically 7 or more consecutive days, with home time planned according to operational needs and driver preferences. It offers flexibility to maximize earnings while meeting safety and service standards.

Owner operators are business owners and partners in Altom’s operation. They haul chemical and petroleum products using tank trailers, maintain their own truck to meet inspection standards, follow loading and unloading procedures for ISO/Flexi-Bag or tanker operations, maintain logs and paperwork, comply with Hazmat regulations, and represent Altom professionally at customer locations. They also manage fuel purchases, trip planning, and scheduling, and maintain a steady workload by meeting mileage or hour requirements. Drivers must be willing to be available 24/7 when needed.

Altom Transport applies a safety-first driver vetting and qualification process. This includes experience, driving-record, endorsement, training, compliance, and equipment standards. The company provides safety and compliance programs, emergency response planning, safety meetings, and personal protective equipment.

Requirements

• Valid CDL Class A license.
• Tanker endorsement (N) required.
• Minimum 1 year of verifiable tanker driving experience; the strict vetting process also requires a minimum of 2 years of verifiable tanker experience within the last 5 years.
• At least 23 years of age.
• Late-model equipment that meets Altom’s inspection standards.
• Clean MVR and strong safety record.
• Able to pass a DOT physical, drug screening, and background check.
• Dependable, safety-minded, and capable of working independently.
• Willing to work flexible schedules, including 24/7 operations if needed.
• No DUI/OWI on record within the last 5 years.
• Cannot be prohibited in the FMCSA Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse.
• No at-fault/preventable fatal or rollover accidents in the last 5 years.
• No more than 2 moving violations in the last 3 years.
• No more than 2 CSA moving violations in the last 18 months.
• No falsification on the driver application.
• Must hold a current X endorsement.
• Complete minimum 1-week in-person new-hire training.
• Complete General Awareness testing in accordance with 49 CFR 172-part H and comply with the Drug & Alcohol Policy and DOT Compliance program.

Nice To Haves

• Hazmat endorsement (H) preferred; must be obtained within 90 days of hire, with assistance available.
• TWIC card preferred, or must be obtained after hire.

Responsibilities

• Safely transport chemical and petroleum products using tank trailers while adhering to DOT regulations.
• Maintain the truck so it meets Altom’s inspection standards and remains in suitable condition for long-haul operations.
• Follow proper loading and unloading procedures for ISO/Flexi-Bag or tanker operations at loading and delivery locations.
• Maintain accurate logs, submit required paperwork, and comply with Hazmat regulations.
• Represent Altom Transport professionally at customer locations.
• Manage fuel purchases, trip planning, and scheduling to maximize revenue.
• Maintain a steady workload by meeting mileage or hour requirements.
• Be available 24/7 when needed.
• Attend quarterly mandatory safety meetings.
• Report incidents and participate in incident and accident investigations as required.
