About The Position

The NYC Department of Finance (DOF) is responsible for administering the city's tax revenue laws efficiently and transparently. The Community Affairs division, specifically the Outreach unit, focuses on public outreach and community engagement. This unit collaborates with government, agency, community, and not-for-profit partners to ensure New Yorkers can access valuable tax savings programs, such as the Homeowner Exemption and Abatement Programs (SCHE and DHE), the Rent Freeze Program, and Veterans Exemptions. The team also supports property owners during the annual Notice of Property Value events. The Outreach unit includes liaisons who educate the public about DOF services and promote enrollment in programs that offer savings on housing and business expenses. They conduct training, presentations, and enrollment events, and provide application assistance for programs like Homeowners Tax Benefits (HTB) and the Rent Freeze Program (SCRIE/DRIE) across all five boroughs. Additionally, Outreach offers technical support and mediation for DOF programs and services.

Requirements

  • High school graduation or equivalent and three years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to duties described above.
  • Education and/or experience which is equivalent to the above requirement.

Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative support, such as case tracking, and responding to inquiries from the community via email.
  • Conduct in-person and virtual training sessions on DOF programs such as homeowner exemption and abatement programs, including the Rent Freeze Program.
  • Coordinate effective and timely response to constituent casework and resolution (phone, email, and mail) from elected officials and community boards.
