About The Position

Legal Aid Chicago seeks a full-time Outreach Coordinator for our Pro Bono and Community Partnerships Practice Group (PCG). PCG works closely with all Legal Aid Chicago’s Practice Groups and staff to coordinate outreach activities, workshops, and collaborative projects throughout Cook County. PCG also works to create and foster partnerships with organizations and agencies whose interests and services align with Legal Aid Chicago priorities. Current priorities include populations with special vulnerabilities (older adults, veterans, formerly justice-involved individuals), maintaining economic stability, and preserving safe, affordable housing. Our current partnerships include, but are not limited to, community-based organizations, schools, and governmental agencies. The Outreach Coordinator must be comfortable engaging in conversations across the wide array of legal issues that Legal Aid Chicago covers, but we anticipate this role having a focus on criminal records-related outreach. This position reports to an Associate Director.

Requirements

  • Experience working with community-based organizations and collaborative partnerships
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including public speaking, one-on-one interactions and listening
  • Ability to work well under pressure
  • Ability to quickly learn and retain new information
  • Experience working with people living in poverty and other vulnerable populations
  • Computer proficiency is required, including Microsoft Office and web conferencing tools
  • Reliable access to a vehicle
  • Highly collegial and willing to work in an interdisciplinary manner with all Legal Aid Chicago staff

Nice To Haves

  • Fluency in a second language is desirable, with fluency in Spanish being preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and foster opportunities for new community partnerships in accordance with agency priorities and resources
  • Coordinate and provide presentations about Legal Aid Chicago services to diverse audiences
  • Coordinate and provide legal education presentations and know-your-rights workshops for community members and service providers
  • Field requests for information and organization involvement in community events and evaluate appropriate level of engagement based on agency priorities and resources
  • Participate in meetings with community organizations and groups throughout Chicago and Suburban Cook County, with a special focus on the West and Southwest Zones of Chicago, as defined by Chicago’s DFSS
  • Develop outreach materials, including flyers, brochures, and public presentations.
  • Attend trainings and maintain current knowledge on relevant issues
  • Connect Legal Aid Chicago staff with appropriate community organizations and groups, and assist with development of Practice Group-specific relationships
  • Document work and accurate timekeeping in electronic case management system
  • Help Legal Aid Chicago staff develop and implement outreach and community engagement plans
  • Track data related to grants, and assist on related reporting, as necessary
  • Other duties as assigned
