About The Position

Responsible for checking prepared medications, overseeing dispensing of traditional and mail order prescriptions from the pharmacy, and completing clinical patient review for safety and accuracy. Provides safe, efficient, high quality, patient-centered, and evidence-based medication services to all patients. In cooperation with other pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, acts as a resource and provides answers to drug information questions for patients and family members, pharmacists, nurses, physicians, advanced practice providers, medical students, undergraduate and graduate pharmacy students, and other associated hospital personnel. Screens for drug-drug, drug-herb/dietary supplement, drug-allergy, drug-food, drug-disease state, and drug-laboratory interactions. Submits insurance claims and communicates with insurance companies as necessary. Participates in appropriate hospital and/or departmental committees relevant to practice area. This position functions to coordinate all aspects of patients' specialty pharmaceutical needs in OSUMC inpatient and outpatient areas. Duties include but are not limited to: medication order approval and distribution; assurance of appropriate dose, route, frequency and duration of therapy; patient medication profile review for drug-drug interactions, duplication of therapy, drug allergy interactions and appropriate regimens, patient counseling, disease state management, and coordination of patients' pharmaceutical needs with physicians and nurses. Must be able to effectively communicate with patients, other health care providers, and insurance companies. This position is also responsible for supervising technicians, undergraduate and graduate student teaching, and providing educational programs for physicians, nurses and pharmacy staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college of pharmacy
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure in Ohio

Nice To Haves

  • 1-3 years experience in retail or specialty pharmacy
  • Certified Specialty Pharmacist through the Specialty Pharmacy Certification Board
  • Previous specialty pharmacy experience with the following disease states: HIV, Hepatitis C, Hepatitis B, MS, Inflammatory diseases, Organ transplant, Oncology
