Requirements
- The orthopedic technician may NOT perform the following tasks: Prescribe medication, Admit or discharge patients, Interpret lab tests, x-rays, or diagnostic studies, Place pins for skeletal fracture, Set/manipulate bones, Suture or tie suture, Clamp or cut tissue
Responsibilities
- Assists in the delivery of orthopedic care through application, removal, and maintenance of casts, dressings, traction, and other orthopedic devices.
- May instruct patients on cast care, crutch training, skin care, and hygiene, under the direction of the supervising physician.
- The orthopedic technician may scrub on orthopedic surgical procedures.
- The technician may have the responsibility for instrument preparation and assembly of orthopedic tables and equipment.
