The state supported living centers serve people with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are medically fragile or who have behavioral problems. The centers provide campus-based direct services and supports at 13 centers located throughout the state. Orthopedic Equipment Tech II (OET II) is responsible for the construction, adaptation, modification, preventive maintenance, and repair of specialized adaptive equipment (AE) and wheelchairs. Works at the Austin State Supported Living Center (HAB Therapies Department). The OET II is supervised by the OET III Supervisor with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or GED required.
  • Ability to lift up to 70 pounds without assistance.

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) year of work experience in designing, constructing, upholstering, maintaining and modifying adaptive equipment for the handicapped preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Construct, modify, repair seating systems and/or other projects using the most safe method, least cost method (labor and material), producing the most durable product, and providing maximum consumer satisfaction.
  • Assess feasibility of in-house design and fabrication/modification of adaptive equipment.
  • Share new ideas and completed project design with others.
  • Use varied media (catalogs, web sites, etc.) to research product information.
  • Provide quality assurance, including quality checks, preventative maintenance, ongoing training.
  • Promote safety, health and well-being of employees and consumers, and implement/monitor safety program at the AuSSLC.
  • Follow policies and procedures.
  • Ensure state property within area of responsibility is accounted for and maintained in proper working condition.
  • Completes special projects and brings them to a successful completion by a specified date.
  • Actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency’s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.
