About The Position

Des Moines Orthopaedic Surgeons, P.C. (DMOS) is seeking a Triage Nurse to assist patients via phone with concerns related to their orthopaedic journey, specifically in intake and procedural follow-up care. This is a full-time, hybrid position after on-site training, involving 4 days of remote work and 1 day in the office per week. The role primarily involves phone-based support for providers and patient care, with the in-office day focused on building relationships with providers and their care teams. The Triage Nurse will provide clinical advice to patients regarding orthopedic care received in-office or during procedures. This role is part of a larger subspecialized triage team that offers mutual support. The remote work requires a HIPAA-compliant space and the use of provided equipment with an existing internet connection. The position is crucial for providing timely responses to patient questions and care.

Requirements

  • Ability to prioritize and quickly shift gears to ensure patient concerns related to pre and post-procedure care are handled in a timely fashion.
  • Experience working in an orthopaedic clinic or urgent care setting.
  • Successful experience providing telephonic triage in a busy clinic.
  • Strong listening and communication skills to appropriately address patient questions and care, and translating information to the care team.
  • Practices the art of listening, asking clarifying questions, and avoiding interrupting the patient.
  • Active RN or LPN license OR CMA Certification in good standing.
  • HIPAA Compliant space within your home for remote work.

Responsibilities

  • Providing high-quality clinical advice to patients via the phone by listening, taking quality notes, documenting in the EHR and collaborating on patient care.
  • Being on the phone for extended periods of time.
  • Regularly and accurately documenting in a patient's chart relating to any communication to the patient and the care team.
  • Supporting patient care by communicating with the provider team of Physicians and Physician Assistants, via electronic medical record system, secure messenger systems and/or phone to ensure appropriate clinical advice is given based on current protocols.
