About The Position

Smile Perfect Orthodontics is seeking a skilled, passionate Orthodontic Assistant to join its well-established, patient-centered practice. The role supports the orthodontist during patient treatments and helps provide excellent patient care. Responsibilities include preparing patients and treatment areas, assisting with orthodontic procedures and appliances, taking diagnostic images or scans, maintaining accurate patient records, and providing patients with post-treatment instructions.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Knowledge of orthodontic procedures, appliances, and terminology.
• Strong manual dexterity and attention to detail.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to interact with patients, families, and the orthodontic team.
• Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations.

Nice To Haves

• Completion of an accredited orthodontic assisting program.
• A minimum of 1–2 years of experience as an orthodontic assistant or dental assistant, preferably focused on orthodontic procedures.

Responsibilities

• Assist the orthodontist during treatments, including placing and removing braces, taking impressions, adjusting wires, and applying or removing elastics and other orthodontic appliances.
• Ensure patients are comfortable during procedures and respond to their needs.
• Prepare patients for orthodontic treatments, explain procedures, and address concerns.
• Position patients and keep instruments and materials within reach to support the orthodontist efficiently.
• Prepare and sterilize instruments, equipment, and materials in accordance with infection control protocols.
• Keep clinical areas clean, organized, and stocked with necessary supplies.
• Take diagnostic X-rays, panoramic images, or digital scans as required for treatment planning.
• Update and record treatment progress, notes, and X-ray results in the practice management system (EHR/PMS).
• Assist with fitting, adjusting, and removing orthodontic appliances, including retainers, expanders, and braces.
• Provide post-treatment instructions on retainer care and the importance of regular follow-up visits.
