About The Position

Rock Dental Brands is seeking an Orthodontic Assistant Trainer to own the new-hire ramp process for newly hired orthodontic assistants. This role involves guiding each new hire through a standardized 90-day program to ensure they become confident and productive chairside contributors. The position is hands-on, requiring direct work with new hires throughout their onboarding period. Success is measured by the speed and reliability with which new hires achieve full productivity. This role requires significant travel, shifting weekly based on new-hire start dates, acquisition schedules, and clinic needs.

Requirements

  • Active or eligible dental/orthodontic assistant credential.
  • Demonstrated hands-on clinical training, preceptor, or new-hire onboarding experience.
  • Comfort with heavy, variable weekly travel across a 6-state footprint.
  • Strong documentation discipline.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Flexibility with overnight travel.

Responsibilities

  • Own the 90-day new-hire ramp program from Day 1 through full contributor status for every newly hired ortho assistant.
  • Deliver the standard 90-day onboarding program, utilizing daily check-ins to assess progress and determine advancement.
  • Manage the daily check-in process, capturing input from trainer, trainee, and manager to decide in real-time on skill advancement or additional practice.
  • Standardize the check-in and advancement logic to ensure consistent evaluation across all locations.
  • Tailor the training pace based on the experience level of the new hire (e.g., new-to-dental vs. experienced dental assistant new to ortho) while maintaining program standards.
  • Deliver hands-on, chairside training on-site across assigned states, adjusting weekly travel to meet new-hire start dates and clinic demands.
  • Collaborate with clinic managers and providers to confirm new hires are actively contributing chairside.
  • Identify and escalate clinic-level readiness issues (e.g., equipment gaps, insufficient supervised hours, provider availability) that impede the training ramp.
  • Maintain ongoing connections with assistants throughout their 90 days to foster a supportive training relationship.
  • Monitor program effectiveness across cohorts and sites, analyzing completion rates, advancement patterns, and common areas of difficulty.
  • Provide feedback to Learning & Development/Clinical leadership on program strengths, weaknesses, and areas for adjustment.
  • Monitor training completion and escalate to Area Managers for individuals significantly behind schedule.
  • Track and report on ramp throughput, including new hires onboarded per quarter, average time-to-confident-contributor, and 90-day retention rates.
  • Flag potential capacity issues when hiring volume across sites may exceed trainer capacity.
