About The Position

Assists in the delivery of patient care by transferring equipment/instrumentation during procedures to physicians. Performs a variety of duties related to the preparation, processing and arrangement of surgical instruments and supplies under the direction of a professional registered nurse appropriate to the ages of patients served. This is a casual ORT position for Labor and Delivery/ Mother Baby/ Nursery with varied shifts.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate of a Surgical Technology Program.
  • Computer competencies as required for the position.
  • Ability to attend to more than one aspect of a situation simultaneously.
  • Efficiency in processing of verbal information, either in written or spoken form is a major requirement and prerequisite of the job.
  • Some independent thought, planning or origination of options and solutions is necessary.
  • Ability to apply principles of reasoning and problem solving to resolve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to maintain/update the computer competencies as required for the position.

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) year of Operating Room scrub experience.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and special nursing procedures as delegated by the professional registered nurse.
  • Secures, sets up and prepares the Operating Room equipment, instruments and supplies.
  • Arranges instruments, tables, stands and other articles in specified order. Adjusts equipment appropriate to the ages of patients served.
  • Provide and assists in meeting the patient's care needs and appropriate to the ages of patients served.
  • Organizes time to complete assignments according to specifically assigned responsibilities.
  • Properly prepares instrumentation following completion of procedures for transport to Central Sterile for reprocessing.
  • Follows department guidelines in the cleaning and disinfection of furniture/equipment.
  • Maintains general cleanliness of unit and restocks appropriately.
  • Reports to Department Director/designee and equipment malfunctions that could affect the standard of care or legal implications.
  • Verifies accuracy of sponge/needle and instruments on appropriate record.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
