Organ Recovery Specialist - Transplant Center
About The Position
The Organ Recovery Specialist assists with coordinating the organ transplant process from the time of an organ offer through transplant. The role primarily receives and screens organ offers from the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN) Contractor and assists the team with primary offers. It provides continuous on-call assistance to the transplant center for organ procurement, receives and records potential donor organ information, and communicates with the host Organ Procurement Organization (OPO) as needed. The specialist assists with contacting attending physicians or fellows, accurately communicating pertinent information, and contacting the Pre-Transplant Coordinator on call to reach potential recipients. The role also helps coordinate recipient operating room logistics with the OR, control desk, surgeons, fellows, and other staff; supports Organ Recovery Specialist 2-3 with arranging transportation for the procurement team; and assists with coordinating donor-operation activities, including travel to and perfusion of recovered deceased-donor organs. The specialist communicates with team members to support a smooth recipient operation and performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Responsibilities

- Assist with contacting the Pre-Transplant Coordinator on call to reach potential recipients.
- Help coordinate recipient OR logistics with the OR, control desk, surgeons, fellows, and other staff.
- Support Organ Recovery Specialist 2-3 with mobilizing and securing transportation for the procurement team.
- Assist with coordinating donor-operation activities, including travel to and perfusion of deceased-donor organs being recovered.
- Communicate with team members to support a smooth recipient operation.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
