New England Donor Services (NEDS) is seeking an experienced ICU RN, critical care RN, trauma nurse, or critical care respiratory therapist for its organ donation coordination team. The coordinator responds on-site to organ donor referrals and provides clinical expertise in donor evaluation and management, organ allocation, and organ recovery. The role combines clinical assessment and people skills to educate hospital staff about donation, work with donor families to obtain consent, and collaborate with surgical teams and critical care staff to optimize organs for transplantation. Success requires confidence, flexibility, compassion, and the ability to remain calm and effective in clinically complex and emotionally charged situations. After a general week-long on-site company orientation in Waltham, Massachusetts, new hires complete a specialized Donation Academy. The academy includes three days per week in the Waltham office for the first three weeks, generally Tuesday through Thursday on a day shift, with additional office training throughout orientation. After classroom training, new hires participate in 16-hour day on-call shifts. Once working independently, coordinators work 16-hour on-call day shifts from 8:00 a.m. to midnight, averaging three shifts per week on a four-week schedule, plus training and meetings. Significant travel throughout New England in a personal vehicle is required; mileage and other reimbursements are available. The position is based around travel to NEDS headquarters in Waltham and hospitals throughout New England. The posting is interviewing for a cohort with a January 4, 2027 start date. NEDS coordinates organ and tissue donation across Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, eastern Vermont, and Bermuda, working with more than 200 hospitals and serving nearly 15 million people.
