About The Position

Join the Summit’s surgical team as an Operating Room Registered Nurse, delivering patient-centered care in a dynamic surgical environment. Work alongside surgeons and other surgical professionals to support safe, efficient procedures and maintain high standards of care throughout the surgical process. The role includes preparing the operating room, assisting during procedures, advocating for patients, and supporting postoperative transfer and care.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Kansas.
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required.
• Strong clinical skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Attention to detail.
• Ability to work effectively in a high-stress environment.
• Ability to lift and move patients and surgical equipment as necessary.
• Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods.
• Ability to handle physical and emotional stress.

Nice To Haves

• Previous experience in an operating room or perioperative setting preferred.
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Conduct preoperative assessments, review patient histories, and verify documentation and consent.
• Prepare the operating room by arranging surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment.
• Assist with safe and comfortable patient positioning on the operating table.
• Maintain a sterile field and follow aseptic techniques and infection-control protocols.
• Support the surgical team during procedures, document operative details, and respond to team needs.
• Ensure necessary supplies and equipment are available and anticipate the surgical team’s needs.
• Advocate for patient safety and comfort throughout the procedure.
• Coordinate and communicate with the surgical team, anesthesia team, and other healthcare professionals.
• Maintain accurate patient records, including surgical notes, times, counts, and specimens.
• Assist with patient transfer to the recovery room and provide postoperative instructions as needed.
• Follow hospital policies, procedures, regulations, and state and federal guidelines.
