This position is located at Memorial Hermann Texas Medical Center. Position responsible for assisting with scheduling all elective surgical procedures and assures that all of the appropriate clinical and insurance coding information is collected for the surgery schedule. Scheduler receives requests to schedule procedures from physician offices and schedules the procedure according to established guidelines. Scheduler provides accurate information so that all departments may view daily and maintains open communication with hospital departments and physician offices regarding schedule changes the activities of assigned OR Department.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Ability to read and write and perform duties following oral and written instruction.
  • Ability to work various shifts for extended periods as determined by the director
  • Ability to perform duties requiring standing, walking, stooping, bending and lifting up to 50 pounds
  • Good computer skills
  • Microsoft Excel experience

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years of hospital or physician office experience preferred
  • OR scheduling and/or call center experience preferred
  • Customer Service experience preferred
  • One (1) year of supervisory experience preferred, in some departments may be required

Responsibilities

  • Assists the OR Environment/Holding Area Clinical Manager with: planning, organizing, scheduling department workload, and making daily work assignments.
  • Assists the OR Environment/Holding Area Clinical Manager with managing departmental employees: provides daily performance feedback to employees as required, gives input into performance appraisals, conducts quality inspections, participates in interviews, and supervises employee training processes.
  • Inspects physical condition of facility and takes appropriate corrective actions.
  • As needed, will assist with physical preparation of patient and physical environment according to the age/needs of the patient/population served.
  • Transports and transfers patients as necessary.
  • Functions as a porter between departments ensuring required medical supplies, information, specimens, and products are delivered in a timely fashion.
  • Collaborates with Holding Area Nurse to provide staffing resources to the Holding Area.
  • Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
  • Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.
