About The Position

The OR Assistant works in Freeman Health System’s Main Operating Room, which has nine surgical suites and offers gynecology, ear, nose and throat, orthopedics, cosmetic, and neurosurgery specialties. The role supports a fast-paced procedural area where staff work as a team to promote patient safety and satisfaction. Freeman provides an individualized orientation process to prepare employees for perioperative work.

The OR Assistant helps maintain a safe, clean environment for patients and surgical personnel, assists with patient handling and transfers under registered nurse guidance, and supports operating room operations through stocking supplies, transporting specimens and blood products, and moving equipment. The position is full-time, 40 hours per week, with 8-hour shifts from 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Participation in the department’s on-call rotation is required, and the employee must be able to report to the facility within 30 minutes of being called.

Requirements

• Obtain AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers within 30 days.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe, clean environment for patients and personnel by performing environmental sanitation and housekeeping responsibilities.
• Assist staff with safe patient handling, movement, and transfers under the guidance of a registered nurse.
• Maintain stocking of supplies in the operating room.
• Transport specimens and blood products.
• Move equipment in and out of the operating room suite.
• Participate in the department’s on-call rotation and report to the facility within 30 minutes of being called.
